Technology Blog #4

People want to be able to use the internet as a communication device. They want to be able to talk to people in China, and Mongolia without learning the language. And lately, some compainies have gone to extremes to make this happen. Facebook is using people power. Google is using the computers as translators.

I think that Facebook has the right idea. People's power is limitless. And if more then 70% of people on Facebook are outside the U.S.A., then we should be able to translate them easily. Computers have glitches, and can be hacked at any given moment. So, I think Humans are a lot better then computers.

Doctors and parents are getting concerned with the amount of technology affects their teen's lives. Cell Phones, Lap-tops, Facebook, Myspace, are all keeping teenagers awake, when they should be asleep. Texting numbers have dramatically increased since 2007, and the numbers can only get worse. What teenagers don't know is that sleep diprivation (texting at night, when they should be sleeping), is linked to memory and concentration problems, depression and anxiety, and all that "good" stuff. Parents are starting to set limits on how many texts a teen sends during the day, and turning off the phone at night.

I've never really thought about how much texting I do. I do turn my phone off at night, and I do get a good eight hours of sleep, but that's not enough. A teen should get 9-10 hours of sleep every night. Texting at ten o'clock probably isn't a very good idea, but we're all addicted.

Turning my phone off an hour earlier would be a good idea, and sending less texts would also help. If depression and memory problems are consequences, I think we should all start doing what our parents wanted us to do a long time ago, text less.

In summary, this article is saying that Facebook isn't very safe, and anyone can see your posts, or your pictures, ect. The article offers 5 different ways to keep your privacy, without deleting your Facebook page. Making friends lists, hiding certain things on your profile, only letting specific people see your address and phone number, changing who can see you on Search, and not sharing personal information, may seem like a heavy duty job, but this explains how to do it in easy steps. Facebook isn't safe, but you can protect yourself.

I've never really thought about who can see what on my Facebook page. I'm not a big Facebook user, but I still have one, and I've never hid anything. Now that I know about it, I most definitely will hide certain things, like my phone number and what not.

Millions of people get on Facebook, daily. I'm guessing the majority of them haven't stopped to think about who could be lurking your profile. It's really creepy, when you think about it. This article will help a lot of people, if they choose to listen.
